🧳 Planning Your Social Media Before Vacation

I’m writing this from Disney World — yes, really! And while I’m here enjoying the rides, food, and time with my family, my social media is still active.

How? By planning everything ahead of time.

Vacations should be a time to unplug, but for content creators and business owners, it’s easy to feel pressure to stay glued to your phone. That’s why I want to share exactly how I plan my content in advance so I can truly relax and enjoy the moment.

1. Start with Content Planning

I typically plan my content a week in advance, but for vacations, I double that to two weeks ahead.

Day 1: Content Planning

  • Come up with topics for each post.

  • Decide on the format: Reel, photo carousel, or graphic slides.

  • Write captions, scripts, or prompts for each piece of content.

When everything is outlined in detail, the rest of the process becomes so much easier.

2. Batch Filming

Once my content plan is ready, I dedicate one or two days to filming.

Because I run both my personal brand and my business, my filming schedule can vary, but batching content saves time (and hair & makeup effort!). By having everything scripted and planned, filming days run much more smoothly.

3. Edit and Organize

After filming, I have a dedicated editing day.

  • I organize all my footage into labeled folders.

  • I edit my videos in the order they’ll appear on my feed.

  • I create thumbnails for my Reels (optional, but I like the cohesive grid look).

Once the final content is ready, I keep it organized in one folder so nothing gets lost.

4. Schedule Everything Ahead of Time

Instead of relying on drafts, I schedule every post to publish automatically.

This saves mental energy and ensures I’m not scrambling to post while I’m on vacation.

5. Communicate with Your Audience and Clients

Before I leave, I:

  • Let my audience know I’ll be away but have content scheduled.

  • Notify clients in advance and confirm that any deadlines or projects are wrapped up.

  • Set up an automated out-of-office email.

It’s all about setting boundaries and managing expectations because you deserve to unplug!

6. Set Boundaries and Avoid Burnout

Boundaries are key to maintaining consistency on social media. You don’t have to be “on” all the time. Taking breaks helps prevent burnout and keeps you creative in the long run.

As content creators, we can fall into the trap of unrealistic expectations. But the people who succeed online are the ones who create sustainable systems—and that starts with planning ahead.

Final Thoughts

Planning ahead lets you fully enjoy your vacation without worrying about your online presence. It takes intentional time and effort upfront, but it’s worth it to truly unplug, spend time with loved ones, and come back refreshed.
